Omnifile Mega - Overview and Tips

The OmniFile Full Text Mega databases covers only selected, top journals in most academic disciplines, and provides immediate access to full-text of articles from many of them. The collection focuses on top academic journals in business, education, social science, and science and key popular / news / trade periodicals.

Search Tips

  • Useful limiters on the search results screen include:
    • Peer Reviewed
    • Full Text
  • The advanced search option provides searching key fields only (author, [article] title, journal name), and Boolean operators.

Source types include:

Most of the sources are peer-reviewed academic journals; others include magazines, trade journals, and news sources.

Dates covered: 1984 - present

Full text included: Over half of articles have full-text provided by Omnifile subscription; most of the rest have full-text seamlessly provided through another EBSCO subscription; other articles may be immediately available via Find It! links.

Accessing the full-text:

Full text - PDF link from ProQuest  links to full text in a PDF / immediately available.

 Get full text link links to full text immediately available in a text / web version.

  Find it via Stan State may link to full text immediately available in another library service, or to a request form for articles the library does not own.

 

Searchable in OneSearch:  Individual articles should be listed in the Everything / Articles / Beyond Scopes. (Example record.)

Some popular / non-academic magazines available in Omnifile may not be covered by OneSearch.

Citing, Emailing, and Saving in EBSCOHost

To get an APA, MLA, or Chicago style citation for an item:

  • From a search results screen, click on the desired title to get more options for that title.
  • On an item record, click the EBSCO Citation button EBSCOHost Citation button to access computer-generated citation for item in APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
  • Note: These citations will not be perfect and may contain errors. Always double-check the citations before using them.

Email results in EBSCOHost:

EBSCO will send an email including the citation, abstract, and/or link to the item (or list of items).

  • To send one item via email:
    • From a results list, click on a title to display a detailed record for that single item.
    • Email button on EBSCOHostEBSCOHost email button available from the detailed / item view.
  • To send multiple items via email:
    • On a search results page, add an item to your folder.
    • Click "View Folder."
    • Use the EBSCO Email buttonEBSCO Email button from the folder to send all or chosen items from that folder.

Saving:

  • To save a full article, click on the PDF icon and save the PDF to your computer/device.
  • Use the Google Drive or OneDrive options from an item record or while viewing a PDF.
  • Use the Save icon to save citations, abstracts, and links to the articles.
    • Generates a simple web page with citation, abstract, and/or links.
    • Use Save As feature of your web browser to save to a text or html file.

Citing, Emailing, Saving Multiple Items:

  • Use EBSCO Add to Folder iconEBSCO Add to Folder icon to add items to your folder.
  • Use the EBSCO Folder icon EBSCO View Folder icon to see items listed in your folder.  Folder items can be emailed, printed, or saved.

Saving across multiple sessions:

  • Create a free, personal EBSCO account to save your results across multiple sessions.

Omnifile Mega - Content Details

OmniFile Mega includes immediate access to current content from over 1000 peer-reviewed journals, and 375 selected popular / news / trade periodicals.

All together, the OmniFile Mega collections include (as of April 2024):

  • 5188 periodicals indexed (2911 current / 2277 discontinued / changed titles )
  • Current issues of 2911 periodicals indexed (2356 peer-reviewed / 655 magazines, trade journals, etc.)
  • Full text from 2788 periodicals (1721 peer-reviewed full-text journals / 1067 popular)
  • Full text of current or embargoed content from 1411 titles (1036 peer-reviewed / 375 popular)
