Interlibrary Loan FAQ: Interlibrary Loan FAQ

Interlibrary Loan FAQ

General Information

  • What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan/CSU+ obtains materials not owned by our library, retrieving CSU campuses (CSU+) and from an international partnership of libraries.

  • Who is eligible for ILL services?

Currently registered CSU Stanislaus students, faculty, and staff may use ILL services.

  • What types of material can be requested through ILL?

Materials available include books, journal and newspaper articles, theses, dissertations, government documents, reports, videos, DVD’s, and music scores.

  • What types of materials may NOT be requested through ILL?

Current textbooks are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan, but may be available through CSU+.  If you are unable to purchase a required text, please speak to your instructor about the possibility of placing a copy on Reserve in the Library.

Requesting Books & Other Materials

  • How do I submit an ILL request?

Interlibrary Loan requests may be submitted via the OneSearch Interlibrary Loan request form.  For items not owned by CSU Stanislaus, most OneSearch and Find It! links will display a "Get a copy" option to submit a request for ILL.

  • How much does it cost?

There is no charge to you for ILL services. All costs are absorbed by the library. Replacement costs may be charged for lost or damaged materials. The library will consult with requesters regarding the need for specific materials if access or copyright fees are unusually high.

  • How long does it take to receive my books or articles?

The average time for a book (and other physical items) to arrive is three to five working days. PDFs of articles often arrive in one to three working days. Books shipped from out of state may take longer.

Receiving Requested Books & Other Materials

  • How will I be notified when my books or articles arrive?

A message will be sent to your campus email when a requested item is available.

  • Where do I get the requested books or articles?

BOOKS / PHYSICAL COPY REQUESTS:  Books, DVDs, and other physical items are held at the Circulation Desk in Turlock or the Stockton Campus Library. You can visit the library and check them out with your Warrior ID card.

ARTICLES / BOOK CHAPTERS / DIGITAL REQUESTS:  You can access PDFs of articles, book chapters, and other digital requests from your OneSearch account. PDFs are available to download for 30 days after the item becomes available.

  • What is the loan period for ILL/CSU+ books and other physical loans?

CSU+ books received from other CSU campuses are checked out for 112 days.

Books from outside of CSU+ and other physical items will have a loan period set by the lending library.

The due date for ILL/CSU+ books is printed on the printed book band and is also listed under LOANS in your OneSearch account.

  • Can ILL/CSU+ books be renewed?

ILL/CSU+ books cannot be renewed.

Cancellations

  • How will I know if my request can’t be supplied?

If Interlibrary Loan is unable to obtain the book or article requested, you will receive a cancellation notice via email stating the reason. Librarians are available to assist in locating research materials.

  • What if I no longer need an item I requested?

Cancel any requests you no longer need in your OneSearch account.
