Use Existing Library Streaming Video
Request Purchase of a Library Streaming License
- Submit a request for a streaming video, which can be viewed online by students at any time.
- The library will check to see if permanent/perpetual or temporary licenses are available.
- Licenses, which usually cost between $150 and $800, are funded through the Library Firm Order budget for a discipline (consult with your Department Representative and/or Librarian Liaison).
Show a DVD during a Class Meeting - Physical Classroom or Zoom
- Copyright allows for showing a DVD in a physical classroom or via Zoom during a scheduled course session.
- For Zoom, please note the copyright restrictions and review the Zoom settings.
- For physical classrooms, be sure to check for the ability to play DVDs (check with OIT and/or check out and test a library external DVD drive).
Stream DVD Content from Library Electronic Reserves
- If there are no institutional streaming licenses available for a title, the library may be allowed to stream video from a DVD via Electronic Reserves.
- Streaming must abide by "Fair Use" conditions (e.g. no license available and/or clips only).

Combine Student Rental Option with a DVD on Library Reserves
- Place a DVD on Library Reserves for students to check-out and view in the Library.
- Assign a video (required course material) which students can either access by viewing the DVD in the library or by paying for an individual rental. (Most commercial films are available for $3 to $4 for an individual to stream at services like AppleTV, GooglePlay, Amazon Video, YouTube TV.)
