Temporary Streaming Licenses (1 to 3-years)

Faculty can request a video and the library will investigate the options for temporary access (typically annual licenses) or permanent ownership. Several main distributors sell institutions online streaming access for individual videos.

Licenses for most commercial films are exclusively available via Swank, which only offers 1-year licenses (usually $255).
Educational / documentary videos often have 1-year (often $150) or 3-year ($200 to $350) licenses available.

Alexander Street Store
Includes listings for many academic / documentary videos available for online licensing. 30 second samples often available. (Titles part of AVON are already available in full with unlimited access.)

Collection of streaming videos (2000+ titles) from selected documentary filmmakers.
Films.com
Catalog of individual academic video titles available for license. 3 minute previews often available.
Kanopy (full catalog)
Search the full Kanopy catalog (including those currently not available at Stan State).
SWANK Digital Campus - Entire Catalog of Films
Licensing for major theatrical films, television programming, and selected documentaries. Most commercial films cost $255 for a 1-year campus-wide streaming license.

Other Streaming Vendors

Primarily documentary video producers / distributors, most of their titles are also available via Kanopy, Alexander Street, and/or Films on Demand (Films.com).

California Newsreel
Library purchases of California Newsreel DVDs usually comes with three-year campus-wide streaming licenses.

Media Education Foundation
Producer and distribute of films on social, political, and cultural impact of mass media
New Day Films
Filmmaker-run distributor, focusing on social issue documentaries for educators. Also offers very short-term (e.g. 14-day) licenses for many titles.

Very Short-Term Institutional Rentals

A few educational video distributors (such as New Day video) offer very short-term (14-day) licenses which are cheaper ($60 to $100) but may serve an individual course.
