Introduction to Library Services

The CSU Stanislaus library offers a range of services to support the School of Nursing in general, and the MSN and Nurse Practitioner programs in particular.

Research databases to identify medical and nursing literature (especially MEDLINE, PubMed, and CINAHL)
Access to the full-text of journal articles in nursing and medical journals
- Immediate access to articles in most nursing and some medical journals
- Interlibrary Loan access to articles not owned by the library
  - Request forms linked from databases, DOI Lookup, Citation Lookup
  - Turn-around time is < 24 hours for most (70%) articles, < 3 days for vast majority (90%) of articles
Large ebook collection; quick access to entire CSU print book collection (search and request via OneSearch / CSU+)
Access to book collections of most libraries (search via WorldCat; request via Interlibrary Loan / OneSearch Request)
Interlibrary Loan services for items not owned by the library.
Research and database searching assistance from librarians.

Medical Journal Literature Searching: Databases

Records in most library tools usually have links to the full-text available immediately online or an Interlibrary Loan request form (to retrieve a copy in 1-3 days).

CINAHL® Plus is a robust collection of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for journals indexed in CINAHL®. This authoritative file contains full text for many of the most used journals in the CINAHL index, with no embargo. With full-text coverage dating back to 1937, CINAHL® Plus is a core research tool for all areas of nursing and allied health literature.
CINAHL® Plus also provides indexing for more than 5,000 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 4 million records dating back to 1937.
MEDLINE (Web of Knowledge) This link opens in a new window
Articles in medical journals/medical research compiled by the National Library of Medicine. Includes detailed and controlled medical terminology (MESH headings) for each entry, to identify and fully trace research on specific medical topics.
Subjects include biomedicine and life sciences, bioengineering, public health, clinical care, and plant and animal science.

PubMed
If you use the Stan State library links to PubMed, the PubMed screens will usually include FindIt! links to the full-text of articles available only via library subscriptions.

Like MEDLINE, PubMed is produced by the NLM and consists of many of the same journal articles. Articles are released on PUBMED almost immediately, before specific medical subject headings are assigned, so articles on the same topic (but described using different vocabulary) must be retrieved by using keyword searches (sometimes using different terms).
