"Westerns" at the CSU Stanislaus library will include fiction and non-fiction stories of Indigenous, Black, Asian, and Latinae/x/o/a, and White stories because representation and Inclusivity are important in American History.
However, according to the Credo Reference database, Westerns are "Stories set in the American West during the second half of the 19th century that feature stock characters, incidents and settings. Westerns have dominated American popular culture in print as well as in radio plays, movies and television shows. The typical western features a cowboy or drifter who battles Indians or outlaws in order to defend a helpless or oppressed character, frequently female. ...."
