Changes to ERIC

With EO 14222, reductions to federal spending has impacted the U.S. Department of Education. ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) is sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences within the U.S. Department of Education. ERIC has been significantly cut.

Per the ERIC Help Desk “The number of records added to the ERIC collection will be significantly reduced going forward. The number of actively cataloged sources will be reduced by approximately 45% starting April 24, 2025.  Subject matter was not considered during the process to identify which sources would be made inactive."

Here’s some details that are being shared:

  • "Please note that all records currently in ERIC will remain available."
  • Not all journals have been notified (yet) that are being deselected. "There has been a delay in notifying publishers impacted by this content reduction due to the government reduction in force."
  • Department of Education has not released a list of deselected journals (yet).
