COMM 3200: Communication Theory - Dr. Stevens

This is a class guide for COMM 3200. Instructor: Dr. Stevens

National Communication Association (NCA)

Journals Publishing Communication Research

NCA has prepared a list of more than 100 journals that publish scholarship in the discipline of Communication. The list includes the 11 journals published by NCA,  as well as journals published independently or by other associations. NCA does not include on this list journals that have been identified as predatory or pay-to-publish journals. The list is categorized by the journal’s primary focus—a journal may appear in more than one category. (Text is from the NCA website)

To determine if full text access is available for a journal:

  1. Start from the University Library home page
  2. Under the OneSearh box, click on the link that says Journals A-Z
  3. Type in the title of the JOURNAL (not the title of an article). If the library has access to that journal, a record will come up, and you can click on the title to determine where you can access the content.

If it appears you cannot obtain the full text through the library web site, you can still obtain the article from our InterLibrary Loan Service.

NCA Journal Access through the Stanislaus University Library

NCA journal titles are linked to the records in our catalog showing date ranges for full text availability. If you are off campus, when you click on the link you will be asked for your CSU Stan login and password. You must use these links, rather than the journal or NCA website, in order to authenticate that you are a CSU Stan student.

Most of these journals are indexed in Ebsco's Communication Source (including Communication and Mass Media Complete) database. The links provided in the OneSearch catalog here will take you to the search page for each individual journal. Be sure to click on the Search Within This Publication link.
