Modesto Bee

Search alerts will automatically send you an email every time a new article with your search term is mentioned in the America's News collection and/or in a specific source like the Modesto Bee.

Search alerts work best if you create a personal Newsbank account (at no cost using our Stan State Library subscription). 

1. Go to any Stan State Library link to Newsbank: America's News or Modesto Bee.
2. Enter in desired search terms in the main search box.
   1. Use quotation marks for exact phrases.
   2. Use Boolean OR to separate synonyms.
   3. If you do not specific a source, it will search all 3000 newspapers within the America's News collection.
   4. Example:
      • "Stanislaus State"  OR "California State University, Stanislaus" OR "Stan State" OR "CSU Stanislaus"
3. Click Search
4. At a search results screen, click Create Alert.
5. Enter your email address, and select frequency.
6. You will receive email messages with a link to the article and a snippet of text where your search term appears.

To create a search alert for articles from a specific source (like the Modesto Bee) use the advanced search and on the second row box, add the name of the source (and be sure to change the field searched to "Source.")

1. Within America's News or the Modesto Bee interface:
2. Go to the Advanced Search
3. Enter main search term(s) in first row search box.
   • Example:
     • Stanislaus State"  OR "California State University, Stanislaus" OR "Stan State" OR "CSU Stanislaus" in All Text
4. Enter your desired source (e.g. newspaper name) in the second row search box. 
   1. Make sure "AND" precedes the second row.
   2. Change field name [ "Date(s)"] to Source.
   3. Example:
      • AND "Modesto Bee" in Source
5. Click Search
6. At a search results screen, click Create Alert.
