About

Mental Health Awareness Month, observed each May since 1949, promotes mental wellbeing, reduces stigma, and encourages open conversations about mental health. It aims to educate the public, highlight early intervention, and improve access to care. Despite growing awareness, over 30 million Americans still lack quality mental health services. Alarming statistics show that 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness annually, and 1 in 6 youth live with a condition—yet only half receive treatment. The initiative emphasizes the importance of early support, policy change, and community solidarity. This month serves as a reminder that mental health is essential to overall health and that continued efforts are needed to create a more supportive, accessible, and stigma-free environment for everyone.
