HIST 4960: Senior Seminar

Overview and review of sources for students in History 4960

Finding an article or journal

If you already know a specific article or journal, you can use different tools to locate an article or journal by the title or the article or journal, the DOI, or the ISSN.

Finding an Article by DOI

Stanislaus State DOI Lookup

If you have a DOI, the library has a Stanislaus State DOI Lookup that will link you to the full-article or a request form.

Stanislaus State DOI Lookup - https://library.csustan.edu/doi-lookup

If Stanislaus State University Library does not have access, it should link to an Interlibrary Loan request.

Finding and accessing a specific journal

If you have a specific name of a journal or an ISSN, to determine if the university library has a specific journal:

  1. Go to the library homepage.
  2. Choose the OneSearch Advanced Search option (under the OneSearch box).
  3. On the Advanced Search screen, choose the OneSearch Journal Search (at the top of the page).
  4. Type in the name of the journal (or the ISSN).
    1. Example: BMC Clinical Pharmacology
    2. Example: 1472-6904
  5. If the library owns the journal, there should be a record and a link to the journal online.

Of the 60,000 periodicals/journals available through the library, almost all of them are available online. (Only 160 are only available in print.)

Finding and accessing a specific article by title or citation

If you have the title of an article, you can access via the library:

You can also access this under the OneSearch Advanced Search or results screen under "Fetch Item" at the top of the screen.

  2. In the OneSearch box, type in the name of the article.
    1. If the article name is very generic, add the last name of the author(s).
    2. If the article name is short or generic, put the article name in quotation marks.
  3. On the results screen, if you do not see your article, look of an "Expand my results" option (under Tweak my results in the upper left).

    1. Look for Online Access or Full-Text available to access the article online.
    2. Look for "No full-text" link as an indicator the library does not own the article.  Click the link or title to get to a "Request article via Interlibrary Loan" form.
  5. If you do not see the article listed at all, go straight to Interlibrary Loan to request a copy.
