Boolean Operators

Boolean operators are connectors (AND, OR, NOT) used to produce more relevant/precise search results.

 

AND OR NOT
and.jpg (20704 bytes) or.jpg (25087 bytes) not.jpg (26533 bytes)
  • All specified items must appear.
  • Narrows search by combining different concepts.
  • Makes search more precise.
  • Either one or the other specified term must appear.
  • Broadens search by combining same concepts.
  • Use for synonyms or like concepts or variant spelling.
  • Excludes specified terms.
  • Narrows search.
