Is this journal article available via the library?
If you have a citation to a specific journal article, follow the steps below to see how the library provides access to that article. To search for articles on a topic, use Academic Search Elite and/or see the Finding Articles guide for help.
  1. Information Needed from a Citation
    Title/Name of the Journal
Date and/or volume/issue containing desired article
The rest of the citation (author, article title, and/or page numbers) is needed to access the article. (See Finding Articles guide to find citations to articles on a specific topic.)
  2. Find It! service
If you are viewing citations to articles after searching a database, click the Find It! button to see how the University Library provides access to the article.
See the Find It! guide for more information.
  3. Library Catalog: Journals on Paper/Microfilm and Selected Online Journals
    Go to the Library Catalog
Change Search: pull-down menu from "Keyword" to Title (begins with).
Change pull-down menu from "Search Entire Library Collection" to Periodicals and Newspapers.
Search for the title of the journal (not the title of the article!).
If several journal titles are listed, click the title of the desired journal to display the full record.
If the screen displays Access online box, check for the years available.
If a Location box is present, look at the Holdings (paper copies) and Supplements (microfilm copies) lines for the volumes or years to see if the library has the volume/year of the desired article.
Paper and microfilm copies are shelved by the title of the journal in the Periodicals section of the University Library Reference Room.
See below for an example catalog record.
  4. Electronic Journals List: More Online Journals
Go to the Electronic Journals page
Use the search box to search for the journal title (or use the alphabetical list (starting with the first word of the journal title).
If desired journal is listed, compare the dates available online to the date of the desired article.
If the online availability covers the desired article, click the link to access the journal's site, and use the appropriate information from the citation (date, volume/issue, page numbers) to access the article.
  5. If Not Listed in the Library Catalog or the Ejournals List
Submit Interlibrary Loan article form to request a copy of an article be sent from another library.
