Sayad Assyrian Collection Special Collections currently has on display a few examples from the Assyrian-related book collection of Rev. Eshoo Paul Sayad, which the University Library acquired 1970. The collection, numbering nearly 1,000 volumes, includes many rare and unusual books, specifically on the religion, history, literature, and language of the Assyrian Christian community, from its earliest beginnings in the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia to modern times in Northwestern Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. The display may be viewed in the West Reading Room.
Going Green: California’s Conservation Movement To celebrate California Archives Month, October 2008, the University Library Special Collections has displayed materials by and about John Muir who is considered by many to be the “First Environmentalist.” The display may be viewed in the West Reading Room.
Faculty Publication 2005 – 2008 Selected faculty publications ranging from books to film are on display in the University Library’s second floor foyer. The items presented in the displays represent examples of the scholarly and creative endeavors of Stanislaus faculty published between 2005 and 2008. Examples of displayed items include An Awakening Journey: Songs and Voices from the Earth, a film by Eric Karlstrom, American Narratives: Multiethnic Writing in the Age of Realism, a book by Molly Crumpton Winter, and Gringos a la Vista, a book by Manuel Murrieta Saldívar.
