Gale Literature Reference Series

Literature reference works published by Gale are excellent sources for researching significant authors (from ancient times to the present), providing biographical information as well as criticism, reviews, and commentary on the context, reception, and interpretation of literary works. 

 

Literature Resource Center - contains much of the content from key Gale literature reference series.

Library Print Collection - The library's reference collection houses hundreds of volumes of literary criticism published by Gale, including content published before 1998 in the various Gale literarture criticism series. 

 

Where to Access Specific Gale Literature Series
Much of the content of the key Gale literature reference series is available in the Literature Resource Center, while some of this Gale content (primarily pre-1998 literature criticism) is only available in the library's print reference collection. The details how the library provides access to the each of the large Gale literature reference series is outlined below.

 

Contemporary Authors:
Biographical profiles of modern authors, including bibliographies.  Published in two series:

Contemporary Authors New Revision Series [0275-7176] - updates to authors already covered in CA (140+ volumes)

Dictionary of Literary Biography
Profiles of significant authors (historic and modern), including biographical profiles and a bibliography of their works.  Published as 350+ individual volumes [ISSN: 1096-8547]
Literature Resource Center: Most Content. Includes all content from the basic DLB series (350+ volumes) except for photographs/images.  Does not include DLB Documentary Series (50+ volumes) or the DLB Yearbook Series (23 volumes).
