Find It - Requesting Articles via Interlibrary Loan

Articles not available in the library's online or print collections can be requested via Interlibrary Loan. There is no charge to CSU Stanislaus users for this service and articles are usually available online 2-5 days after an Interlibray Loan request is submitted.

If an item is not available online or in the library, the Find It! menu should link to Interlibrary Loan and enter the citation information into the request form.  (Requests can also be entered manually via the Interlibrary Loan web page.)

How to submit an Interlibrary Loan article request via a Find It! menu:

1) If you have never used Interlibrary Loan, register for ILLiad first.

If you have never requested an item via Interlibrary Loan, register for a free ILLiad account

2) Access the Find It! menu for your article.

Options include:

  • Find a citation for your article from an appropriate library database like Academic Search Premier and look for the Find It!  links.
  • Use the Fetch Item service to look-up a known citation.
  • Use the DOI Look Up service (if you have the DOI of the article).
  • On OneSearch, the initial results will only display articles the library owns.  Use Expand My Results to find articles only available via Interlibrary Loan and click No full text.

3) Check to see if the article is already available via Stan State.

If there is a View It section, the Full text available: links should lead to the full article online and Interlibrary Loan is not needed.

If there is a Get It section, anything labeled CSU Stanislaus Library Periodicals should be shelved in the Library (and Interlibrary Loan is not needed)

4) If not already available, under Get It click "Request article via Interlibrary Loan"

If the View It (online) and Get It (print periodicals) sections do not indicate the library owns the article, under Get It click the Request article via Interlibrary Loan link.

The first time you use the ILLiad request system you'll be prompted to register for a free ILLiad account.

Once you have registered, you will need to return to the Find It! menu and click on "Request a copy" again to have the bibliographic data automatically inserted into the ILLiad request form.

5) Submit Request

The information from the desired article should display in a request form. Check the information and scroll down to submit the request.

First time users: If the article information (author, title, volume, etc.) is not already in the request form, simply close the ILLiad window and  on the Find It! screen click "Request a copy link" again.

6) Message (with a link) will be sent to your campus email when the article is available.

Articles requested via Interlibrary Loan are usually available in 2-5 working days.
